This pohutukawa has gold sparkles all through the flowers, even on a cloudy day

    Aaaaaah : ) Beauty.

And most impressed with Wellington Central Oriental Bay Pohutukawa - who knew they could be so restrained?

Coromandel pohutukawa seemed especially vivid this year. So much so, that I took a specific photo of the redified beach.

Meola Road. Pohutukawa blooms lie in drifts in the gutters; the confetti of yesterday’s parade.

    drain nadir…

Pohutukawa blooms lie in drifts in the gutters

    Stamen down,
    a brush with death
    stay man, down
    sprinkled with spray
    Tawhaki’s blood clogs the gutter
    running back to the sea…

...and let's not forget the Masons...

  • Geoff Lealand,

Interesting that the metrosideros used to be a favoured street tree in San Francisco but it is now regarded as a pest as it is so disruptive of underground utilities.

I suspect that damage done by tree roots seeking water lies behind much drain repairing around Wellington and elsewhere.

It struck me the angles on our consecutive shots were uncannily in-sync. So I did a twiddly thing. Not sure it works, but it's Friday, I'm on holiday, and Photoshop was open.

    Happy Newness!
