  • Russell Brown,

I, for one, welcome Capture's move into the Saturday Morning House Pr0n sector.

I thought you might like that Geoff. The photos don’t even do it justice. It has a projection booth too.

    Saturday Morning House Pr0n

Might have to make this a thing, but then I don’t have many friends with such magnificent houses for sale. :-)

The Herald's Saturday property supplement is my guilty pleasure over breakfast. Read some journalism, then just glaze over and look at pictures of other people's houses ...

The subject of this capture is in the Street across form us and I have watched it transform.Nice to see what they did to the inside. There are some lovely Art Deco houses on this side of town.
This is one house I regret my cousin selling. Milbank Mansion in LA. She restored it where it was needed but much of it was retained in original splendour. My camera broke last time I stayed there so the images I got are too fuzzy.

  • TracyMac,

That was one of my favourite houses too, when I was living in the burg. How nice to learn that it's had such an awesome and sensitive refurb.

Is this the house that was the location for the 1990 film Ruby & Rata?

Don’t think so. Niel and Jette moved in 1991, and started work on the basement after that. Found a reference under Rob Gillies Bio that says the house was in Mt Albert too, and it would be a bit of a stretch to call Three Kings Mt Albert, even for a real estate agent. :-)

He has an old art deco house too and his neighbour who is another Production person does also. They are art deco fans. Maybe because your friends beautiful house is on the corner of Mt Albert Rd, the stretch to call it in Mt Albert could work... :)
Also, Im wondering (not having seen Ruby & Rata) if he used his own house or his neighbours. They are both lovely houses too and rather close to your friends.

  • JacksonP,

    Update:

    Apparently it's not the house in Ruby and Rata, but Jette says;

we have had several TV commercials filmed there, parts of Pūkana and our ... Eco meets Deco launch of sustainability features in 2006, Jeanette Fitzsimons and Dr Morgan Williams ... were interviewed in the lounge for TV3 News.

So been featured on TV a few times.

  • Bart Janssen,

We drive past the house a lot. It is a lovely old house from the outside and that's from someone who has a generally low opinion of old houses in Auckland.

It's neat to see the inside.

BUT it sits on a busy corner of a busy road and I would fear for the safety of our cats even if we could afford it.

  • Paul Brislen,

I live round the corner (about 200m away) and I know my kids have been on playdates there, but I've never been in. I'm not one for wandering through other people's houses at open days just for kicks but I'll make an exception here.

But Bart, you're quite right, that's one hell of a busy road and it's quite exposed to the traffic. Oh I'm such a dad.

  • Richard Grevers,

Wow - I stayed there a few years back - camped out on the cinema stage. Didn't realise Neil and Jette had left these shores - a loss to the country.
We've been on the lookout for a Sunbeam toastermatic (1960's "pop-less" toaster) ever since. Well, not since we moved off-grid and 1kW electric elements are a no-no.

Um, they haven't. I think I said moved TO the country, not from the country. Just gone up north. Still very much involved with design and sustainability projects, through both HDG, and eBode Housing.

I took a photo of a toaster. I'll post it when I get home, to see if it's the one you remember. Had a matching tea set.

As promised, but I don't think this is a Toastermatic. Now you've got me interested in them. :-)
