Great to see there is Still Life in the St James. Hope they will clean up the decaying exterior too.

So long ago now…. one of my early jobs was dishing out ice-creams and lollies and pop corn at the St James and the others in that complex. Sounding like a complete old fogey, it was back when an interval was standard at the movies (you know, stop the movie half way through so you can stock up on more ice cream and get outside for a cig too).

Marching backwards on a wee bit here…. these are habaneros from March, though they don’t seem to be in a hurry to stop producing.

Another couple from in the St. James.

Sizzle. I can attest, a little goes a long way.

Realise that we also took a trip to Bethells beach and lake earlier in the month, and these haven’t been posted.

The sand dunes are great fun, and surprisingly big. Children provided for scale.

Not a home town, but significant, and I finally got back after nearly 20 years, Gisborne this Anzac Day.

My original hometown & pleased to the Cenotaph whole again. Was back there a month ago and it was looking touch & go that the works to get "George" back on the plinth were not going to be completed in time.

If we're going to do the autumn seaside, here's something I shot a couple of weeks ago at Waikuku. Strange Geometries (iPhone 5S in panorama mode)

  • Chris Waugh,

    Nora, yes, airborne poppies.

Allan, they were still working on the Cenotaph on the 24, but it was all ready in time. Good turn out on the day, both at the Dawn Parade and the Civic Service. Also, the new Maori Battalion exhibition at the museum is worth a look.

Nice shot, Jackson. I like the iPhone's panorama mode - it lets you get a really nice wide-angle feel to landscapes - lots of sky/foreground.

Picture seems to re-orient when you click, so not sure what's going on with the sideways preview.

Funnily enough I just returned from coaching my 11yo daughter's team, which I've nicknamed the 'cart-wheelers', cause that's their approach to football training.

    Wind wasn't not pleasant.

  • Shaun Scott,

The orientation seems to be the bane of my photographic existence :-)

Love the idea of the cartwheelers. The random joy and distractability are so much part of the fun of kids sports.

I'm guessing it's a problem with rotating a pic taken at right angles to usual horizon base in a viewing program that maybe doesn't stretch to embedding in other programs - maybe a 'save as' might override the 'preview' history...
or a swing through PhotoShop and a save as there...
