i'll say! witter would be a great name for a blog site.

i'm with you jolisa. i'm no tweeter. i've tried, but it's just not in me.

  • Ben Gracewood,

Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo regularly refer to wittering on twitter, and their official account is http://twitter.com/wittertainment

    But tuttering, that is brilliant!

If you want one single indicator of the value of twitter, then go visit Twistori this instant. Click one of the words on the left. See you in a couple of days.

  • Jolisa,

That's lovely! Have they deliberately timed it to the average resting pulse rate, as well? It feels like somehow taking the emotional pulse of the (twittering) world....

  • Gareth Ward,

Is that Twistori filtered in any way? Or is it a live stream of tweets with those words in them?
Cause if that's unfiltered then my estimation of humanity just notched up a little.

I vote we replace the NYSE street ticker with that...

I'm pretty sure it's just a live stream. It would be more hassle than it's worth to filter it.

Love and Believe are my favourites.

That surely was translated by google. Either that, or please don't make fun of foreigners making the effort to write in your stupid language. Smiley face.

Jackie, you mean tuttering and wittering at the same time ? Although I guess that's what these forums are for, eh...

Oh, I don't think even google translation could come up with something so painfully beautiful and funny. Smiley face indicating genuine uncomical appreciation of beautifully humorous things done to overly familiar syntax of own language by non-native speakers, amplified by wry memory of having more than once caused similar artful and amusing contortions in other people's languages to similar unintentional comic effect. (Gosh, I love emoticons, they really save on the typing.)

But mainly I was just amused by the content, not the form, honest.

Are we getting anywhere with emoticons for "tut" and [eyeroll]?

  • Steve Withers,

On Twitter, I find the "I'm buying a litre of milk" tweets tedious and a waste of my time if not that person's.

What I DO value is all the interesting bits and pieces and links that others come across that I might have otherwise missed. In return, I share links and things I have found interesting.

It helps to be a curious person who wants to know things. If one isn't curious about what is going on in the wider world and looking for sources of useful information about topics of interest, then Twitter will be utterly pointless.

Twitter is a point-form sharing engine of pointers to more information or experiences. If you don't want that, then don't waste your time on Twitter.

  • Jake Pollock,

Through twistori, I just learned the word 'podomasochist'. It relates to feet, not whales.

I was also going to suggest Bitter, as a site where people could complain incessantly about things, but I see the Guardian Comment Is Free section has done that for me.

I think, when Italian PA commenters can write so intelligently about cricket everything gets forgiven.

but I see the Guardian Comment Is Free section has done that for me.

Yep, nothing quite like the left turning against themselves. Danyl's still not over the 3rd Labour term :-)
